Music captures the heart of any experience.

Building the ‘just for you’ product was a passion. We solved it by learning priors from a million or so top playlists gotten from MOG and built an AI system that listened to each one.

The model listens to playlists, and scores how well the songs transitioned from one to the other — did they keep the vibe and feel — was there a crescendo and a climax — did it hold musical context? It lead to lots of serendipity.

We added location dependency sampling, so when traveling, it would find you music you liked, but region specific. Everyone took vacations.

We created “the sentence” where you could tell it what mood, circumstance, and with whom you wanted to experience and it would make a unique playlist based on that. Combinatorial magic ensued.

This required massive data modeling across millions of users as well as realizations that connected to product. No small feat.

Beats Music was sold for 3.2 billion dollars and became Apple Music
